As our nation pauses to mark 2011 as the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War, we have developed three incredible learning vacation packages that offer you an opportunity to gain insights into those turbulent times. Choose from a duo of 3-night packages that focus on Civil War activities in different parts of our area, or combine the two for a 5-night Emersion Tour that offers an unparalleled experience in retracing events in this pivotal 3-county area of Central Virginia.

Civil War Sesquicentennial: Emersion Tour
April 12, 2011 begins the 150th Anniversary of the uniquely American struggle that, without a doubt, indelibly shaped our nation. Equally without doubt is the role this part of Virginia played in the events of that great conflict.

To honor and educate about those pivotal contributions, The Inn at Meander Plantation has developed a 5-night, 6-day Civil War Sesquicentennial Emersion Package that is a must-do for Civil War enthusiasts, students or devotees. Your experience includes personal guided tours of battlefields and sites with three local nationally-acclaimed experts, luxurious accommodations in historically significant inns, an 1860s period dinner and other meals, transportation and take-home books and materials about the Civil War.

  • Five nights (Sunday - Thurday) accommodations in the room or suite of your choice
  • Monday: Culpeper Civil War Historical Walking Tour with noted Culpeper author-historian Virginia Morton
  • Tuesday: Guided tour of Civil War battlefields and sites in Orange County with area historian Frank Walker or another knowledgeable guide from Tour Guides, Ltd.

Because of their proximity to Washington, D.C and Richmond, many of the Civil Wars' most important conflicts and campaigns took place in Culpeper and Orange Counties. For a more focused look at these specific sites, we are offering a condensed 3-night, 4-day package.

Though lesser known, Madison and Green Counties were nonetheless focal points for critical events during the Civil War. This 3-night, 4-day package will cover events and landmarks specific to these counties.

  • Wednesday and Thursday: Renowned Madison County Civil War historian and author Harold Woodward will take you on two, 5-6 hour guided tours covering the events and landmarks of the Battles of Jack's Shop and James City, as well as other key battles and sites in Madison and Green Counties
  • Gourmet Wine Pairing Dinner on Thursday evening, with a presentation of additional Civil War information by another local historian
  • Fruit and cheese tray on arrival
  • Full gourmet breakfasts each morning
  • Gourmet 3-course French Dinner Basket on Wednesday night. (Tuesday night 1860s Period Dinner available for additional charge if being served.; otherwise, Tuesday dinner on your own)

Trout Fly Fishing  Package
The fishing is great and the relaxation is even greater! This adventure package allows you to fish at a place right here in Madison County where the fish are monsters, every pool is full of potential and every hook produces a rod-bending fight! So pack up your waders, rods and flies and come escape the fast-paced world; we’ll take care of the rest!

Trout Fly Fishing  Package

Package includes:

  • 2 nights lodging in one of our elegant guestrooms or suites
  • Full breakfast each morning or optional “early start” breakfast
